Hello Olatunji,

First and foremost, there’s no best field, niche, industry or sector. Every niche, industry or sector has critical roles to play in the economy, and you can get a good job and make good money or build a successful career in any niche, industry or sector. There are also successful project managers in any niche, industry or sector you can think of now. So if I must say, the best industries or sectors for you are the ones you find most interesting.

I want you to think about this seriously…

Let’s assume you’ve never heard about the project management profession or you’ve have never thought of being a project manager, what types of jobs or career do you think you would have been thinking about the most? Which industries or sectors do you think you would have been more interested in based on the types of jobs that are being done and the skills that are highly needed in those industries or sectors? What are those skills that you have really thought about developing and that you would love to sell to people to make money? Who are the people you really admire the most based on their career or jobs, what do they really do in their jobs or career and how do you think they got started? If you can ponder on these questions and come up with written answers, and also critically analyse your answers and do some self-assessment, I’m sure you would be able to find out the industries or sectors that are best for you in terms of job and financial security.

It’s great that you’re pursuing a bachelor’s degree in project management technology and in case you don’t know, technical project managers are one of the most sought after professionals in the world. So make sure you graduate with good grades.

However, here’s my life changing advice to you…

Think less about project management or being a project manager and think much MORE of something, like a job or career, you would really love to do when you graduate. Then start now, as in I mean right NOW, to gather the knowledge, skills and other resources you would need to start doing that thing when you graduate. Never ever wait until you graduate. After you have graduated, secured a nice job or found yourself in that industry or sector, then you can now begin to think of how to blend that job or career with your project management knowledge and skills.

I hope this helps!
